Narbonne Train Station is right in the centre of the city. From here, much of the Narbonne’s attractions are within easy reach.
Most of the gothic architecture in France is located in the north of the country, but Narbonne is the exception. Head to the Archbishop’s Palace, a grand feat of gothic design, which plays host to the Town Hall as well as two museums. Narbonne Cathedral, dating back to the 13th century, is the only gothic cathedral in the Mediterranean region, and it well worth visiting.
The city’s history extends back to the Roman times, when it was an important centre. The only remaining structure from that time is Horreum, a storage building constructed in the 1st century BC. Take a tour to learn more about France’s Roman history.
The city is also a gateway to many beautiful natural attractions. Drive to the Narbonne Regional Park with its 80,000 hectares of pine forest, lagoons, dunes, and salt marshes. There are well marked hiking paths, and horse rides within the park can also be organised.
Before leaving, be sure to stock up on sweet treats from the iconic Patisserie Combot, which is famed for its gooey cakes and crumbly biscuits.

Beyond Narbonne Train Station
From Narbonne Train Station, it’s easy to reach other historically and culturally rich destinations in the Aude region.
Carcassonne
This small city is the ultimate travel destination for history enthusiasts, and it can be reached in just 45 minutes by car from Narbonne. The Cite, a fortress that rings Carcassonne, is a Unesco World Heritage Site and the main attraction in the city. This citadel, from the Roman-Gallo period, has 52 towers and is said to be the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s castle in the famous Disney movie. If you’re not squeamish, visit the Torture Museum, which hosts a ghoulish display of torture instruments from the Middle Ages.
Beziers
Just a 35-minute drive from Narbonne is the charming town of Beziers. The most famous sight here is the Canal du Mide, a Unesco World Heritage Site that was designed by Paul Riquet, a man who wanted to join the Mediterranean and Atlantic via a canal. Also visit the Musée du Biterrois, a museum of the town’s history that features Roman artefacts and exhibitions on local winemaking.
