Paimpol
Defined by a picturesque harbour and quaint traditional houses, the town of Paimpol provides the perfect day trip from Guingamp. Top sights include the Musée de la Mer, where you can learn all about the history of Paimpol’s port. To retreat to nature, head west along the D786 to the stunning botanical gardens of Jardins de Kerdalo.
Another must-see attraction is the intriguing 13th century Beauport Abbey. This listed historic monument is open to the public and features peaceful grounds incorporating walled gardens and orchards overlooking the sea.
Treguier
Famed for being the birthplace of St Yves, the patron saint of lawyers (and of course, for being an incredibly pretty destination), Treguier is a characterful town brimming with historic architecture. Camera at the ready for the grand gothic cathedral and fabulous 17th century timber-framed houses.
The most renowned of these houses was once home to Ernest Regan – a leading philosopher and religious scholar. This has now been transformed into a museum where visitors can learn about his life and work. Strolling down to the harbour and taking in the charming views is a must.
