In the city centre, you’ll find the largest Roman baths in Bulgaria as well as an impressive archaeological museum. There’s also Varna City Art Gallery, showcasing an impressive selection of works by Bulgarian artists from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Varna’s History Museum is also worth checking out, offering a real insight into the history of the city between 1878 and 1939.
If you’re interested in religious architecture, take a look at the elegant St Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church (built around 1842) and the small St Michael the Archangel Church (founded around 1865), featuring hand-carved wooden icons.
After a morning of sightseeing, head to Primorski Park – a pleasant outdoor green space offering a tranquil spot to relax. It also has an Aquarium and is steps away from the city’s main attraction – its long sandy beachfront.

Beyond Varna International Airport

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is Optional (taxable)
Depending on car group rented, customer is an amount ranging between 10,000.00 EUR and 50,000.00 EUR if Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is not taken. Purchase of CDW reduces liability to an amount between 500.00 EUR and 1,500.00 EUR depending on car group rented in the event of an accident, fire, or vandalism to the Avis vehicle.
Theft Protection (TP) is Optional (taxable)
Depending on car group rented, customer is an amount ranging between 10,000.00 EUR and 50,000.00 EUR if Theft Protection (TP) is not taken. Purchase of TP reduces liability to an amount between 500.00 EUR and 1,500.00 EUR depending on car group rented for theft of parts or all of the Avis vehicle.
Note: In the case of damage to the Avis vehicle, traffic fines or pentalty fee a charge of 30.00 EUR is applied for administration costs, in addition to the libility amount.
In case of damage or theft to the rented vehicle, a police protocol or a mutual agreement statement is required. Otherwise, all additional insurances, reducing your responsibility will be invalid. In case no other vehicle/participant is involved in the accident and the police has refused to attend the scene, the customer must provide the reference number from his call with the police.
If you require additional insurance coverage you may purchase locally to reduce/remove the insurance excess. Just ask at the Avis rental desk when you collect your car.
