En route you’ll see remnants of a 19th-century aqueduct. The monastery’s main church features an array of colourful frescoes, while the entire attraction is set within Altindere National Park, offering numerous walking trails.
Uzungöl
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, drive for about 90 minutes from Trabzon Airport and enjoy the delights of Uzungöl. With a beautiful lake of the same name, and mountainous backdrop, it has a slightly Swiss look and feel. It’s a great base to enjoy hiking and mountain biking, or to simply sit back and enjoy a serene lakeside picnic.
Hiring a car makes it a breeze to explore all that Trabzon and Turkey’s Black Sea region has to offer. And you’re sure to see some stunning sights en route.
