ΕΝΟΙΚΙΑΣΗ ΑΥΤΟΚΙΝΗΤΩΝ Αεροδρόμιο Βρότσλαβ (WRO)

Wroclaw Airport (WRO) also known as Wroclaw Nicolaus Copernicus Airport after the Polish astronomer, is the fifth largest airport in Poland and welcomes more than 4 million passengers each year.

First opened in 1938 as a military airfield, it serves 68 destinations in 28 countries. The airport is under development with investment planned for the terminal to upgrade the passenger experience and increase terminal space and facilities. The airport is located on the western edge of Wroclaw with good road access via the A8 and A94 motorway.

If you are driving in Poland for the first time or have just arrived in Europe, make sure you familiarise yourself with the Polish driving rules before picking up your car. Some key road rules in and around Wroclaw include driving on the right and overtaking on the left. Be aware that speed limits in the city are 50 km/h in built-up areas (60 km/h between 11pm and 5am), 90 km/h outside built-up areas, and 130 km/h on motorways. There is a tram network in Wroclaw and drivers should overtake on the right and can use any part of the road provided for trams. Mobile phones can only be used as a built-in audio device.

From the Avis car park at Wroclaw Airport to the centre of Wroclaw is a drive of 14.8km which will take around 40min depending on the time of day. Head west from the airport and take the DK94 following signs to the centre of the city.

While Wrocław may not be as well-known as other major cities in Poland, it’s establishing itself as a cultural destination, boasting many historic landmarks.

Start your exploration in the old town where charming, cobbled streets surround the Market Square, with ancient canals, bridges and buildings adding to the city’s beauty. Not far from the square is Ostrów Tumski, the oldest part of the city dating back to the 9th century when Slavic tribes first settled here. Sights in the area include the Cathedral of St John the Baptist and the Archbishop’s Palace, which has been transformed into a museum of religious art.

Don’t miss visiting the Centennial Hall and its parks. Situated a short drive east from the city centre, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was built as an exhibition hall in the 19th century to mark the 100th anniversary of Napoleon’s defeat. Attractions include Poland’s oldest zoo, a romantic pergola fountain and a Japanese garden. A number of restaurants and cafes are also located within this complex.

Żagań

The town of Żagań, just under a two-hour drive from Wrocław, is worth a day trip for its impressive historic architecture. This city’s ancient past can be appreciated through sights such as the Żagań Palace, the Town Square and the Post-Augustinian Monastery Complex, which is a registered heritage site in Poland.

Jawor

An hour’s drive from Wrocław brings you to Jawar – a historic town most famous for its Churches of Peace. These three timber-framed churches, all designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites, were constructed by the Lutherans during the 17th century.

Unique in structure, they’re made primarily of wood and don’t have some of the usual features common of churches, such as steeples. These are the largest timber-framed religious buildings in Europe.
