What to do in Seville

One of the largest historical centres in Europe, Seville is only a 20-minute drive via the A-4 and Avenue de Kansas City from the airport. This lively city has plenty to offer, including numerous restaurants, a buzzing nightlife and many historic sites.

Seville’s spectacular cathedral, officially the largest in the world, is a popular attraction. Also worth visiting is the Barrio Santa Cruz – the old Jewish Quarter opposite the cathedral. This is known as the historic heart of Seville and peppered with shops, restaurants and cosy cafes.

Other treasures include the Royal Palace (the Alcazar of Seville). This promises an interesting day trip, as it is in fact a collection of several palaces – each representing an eclectic combination of different religious influences and architectural styles.

Opposite Maria Luisa Park, Plaza de España is ranked among the city’s top attractions. This delightful square, decorated with ornate tiles, fountains and baroque arcades, was originally built for the 1929 Ibero-American exhibition and remains a popular draw for both locals and visitors.

There are also numerous restaurants in the area for those wishing to taste Spanish gastronomy at its finest.

To sample the local nightlife, head to Calle Betis – an impressive waterfront area home to a popular strip of pubs, trendy bars, cafes and restaurants.

From the comfort of your rental car, Seville and other Andalusian gems are easily explored at your own pace.

Road Trips from Seville Airport

Andalucía is one of the most popular parts of southern Spain. With its historic cities, rustic towns and spectacular resorts, it’s easy to see why. From historic and cosmopolitan cities like Seville and Cadiz, to beach destinations such as Marbella and the Costa del Sol, it’s possible to find the perfect combination of sun, seaside fun and sightseeing.

Doñana National Park
Just under an hour’s drive from Seville Airport is Doñana National Park. This natural reserve is a top attraction in Andalusia and houses an enormous variety of bird species, including one of the largest colonies of Spanish imperial eagles in the world.

Italica Roman Ruins
Just 10km north of Seville Airport along the A-4 are the ruins of Italica. One of the earliest Roman settlements in Spain, Italica dates back to 206 BC. These fascinating ruins and mosaics lie just outside the village of Santiponce, which also boasts a well-preserved Roman theatre.

Ronda
Just under a two-hour drive from Seville Airport is Ronda, settled in the Malaga region. Slightly further afield, but well worth taking a day out of your itinerary to explore, this mountaintop town is a popular spot. With its charming old town and 18th-century Puente Nuevo bridge overlooking the 100-metre drop below, it offers a tranquil retreat with outstanding views of the mountains and landscapes beyond.

Hiring an Avis car makes exploring all that Seville and Andalusia have to offer effortless. And you get to take in some stunning Spanish scenery along the way.
