Widely considered to be among the most beautiful areas of France, Colmar is nestled in the foothills of the Vosges Mountains, and a road trip is the perfect way to take in the highlights of this little slice of Alsace paradise.
Directly south of Colmar, about 30 minutes away, sits the impressive Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, one of the most popular sights in France. If you are interested in seeing an authentic Alsatian town, head north to the village of Ribeauvillé. You can take a detour along the way through the Reisling wine region where the landscape is speckled with vineyards and half-timbered houses. The landscape to the west of Colmar reveals a rural fantasyland of peaceful woodlands and rolling hills as well as some of the area’s most appealing villages, such as Turckheim to the west and Eguisheim to the south west.
Approximately 50 minutes north via the N83, you’ll reach the historic city of Strasbourg, where you can discover the city’s most important sights and taste the unique and varied Alsace cuisine.
