If you simply need to get from the airport to the city centre, one-way car hire is perfect. However, when you plan to spend a lot of time exploring Orange, try one of our long-term car rentals. And to make sure you save money while hiring a car from us, try searching through car hire deals.
There are several petrol stations in Orange, with plenty of options for drivers on Peisley Street that runs north to south through the eastern part of the city centre. The Mitchell Highway runs through Orange and connects the city to Sydney in the southeast. The speed limits you encounter in Orange are the same as those you'll find all over New South Wales. This means a maximum of 40 km/h in areas of high pedestrian activity, like schools, or up to 50 km/h as default in built-up areas. The limits for divided roads, urban motorways, and rural motorways are 80 km/h, 100 km/h, and 110 km/h, respectively. Please take time to familiarise yourself with local speed limits when you drive.
Orange is a truly lovely place to spend time in. Head to Cook Park on Summer Street and take in the gorgeous groves of European trees that really help the town live up to its name in early autumn. There is also a Botanical Garden in the north of the city that hosts a variety of concerts and events.
Nearby, you’ll also find the Narambla homestead, where Banjo Peterson – the poet of Waltzing Matilda fame – was born. Twenty kilometres to the west, Mount Canobolas rises high above the local landscape, forming one of the highest points in Australia outside of the Great Dividing Range.
